One Region, Twenty Links Courses, Seven Hubs, Eight Championship Links

South Wales and the South West of England offer one of the most compelling stretches of coastal golf in the UK. Across the region, there are 20 links golf courses, including eight championship level links that comfortably sit within any serious UK itinerary.

What makes the region particularly effective for international operators is not just the quality, but the geography. Rather than moving hotels daily, itineraries can be built around well positioned hubs, each offering multiple links courses within a manageable drive.

This allows for a more relaxed touring model without compromising on the golf.

Swansea and the Gower Peninsula

Base: Morgan’s Hotel, Swansea

The Gower Peninsula provides one of the most distinctive links settings in the UK, combining raw coastline with accessible routing from Swansea.

Pennard Golf Club

Swansea Bay Golf Club

Tenby Golf Club

Pennard is the standout, widely regarded as one of the most characterful links in Britain. Swansea Bay offers a more traditional, flatter links test, while Tenby adds a classic links further west that fits naturally within this hub for those extending their stay.

Morgan’s Hotel places groups in the centre of Swansea, with straightforward access onto the peninsula and a strong off course scene within walking distance.

Cardiff and Porthcawl

Base: Vale Resort at Hensol Castle

This is the strongest championship cluster in the region.

Royal Porthcawl Golf Club

Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club

Southerndown Golf Club

Royal Porthcawl is the headline act and regularly hosts elite amateur and professional events. Pyle and Kenfig offers a classic dune lined links, while Southerndown brings elevation and a different visual style to the rotation.

The Vale Resort provides a higher end base with space, facilities and easy access to the M4 corridor.

Somerset Coastline

Base: DoubleTree by Hilton Cadbury House

Somerset offers a compact stretch of coastal golf with a clear hierarchy.

Burnham and Berrow Golf Club

Weston-super-Mare Golf Club

Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club

Burnham and Berrow is one of England’s premier championship links. Weston and Minehead complement it well, both offering exposed, traditional links golf that works effectively within a tour.

Cadbury House gives easy access from Bristol and a practical base for groups arriving via the South West’s main transport routes.

North Devon

Base: Saunton Sands Hotel

North Devon is one of the purest links regions in England.

Saunton Golf Club East Course

Saunton Golf Club West Course

Royal North Devon Golf Club

Saunton’s two courses provide 36 holes of championship links, while Royal North Devon delivers one of the most traditional links experiences in the game.

From this base, itineraries can also extend north and south, with Minehead and West Somerset to the east and Bude and North Cornwall to the west, both within reach to broaden the tour without relocating accommodation.

Saunton Sands Hotel sits overlooking the coastline, allowing for a seamless stay and play style base.

North Cornwall – Camel Estuary

Base: Trevose Golf and Country Club

This area combines elite links golf with a strong hospitality scene around Padstow and the Camel Estuary.

St Enodoc Golf Club Church Course

Trevose Golf and Country Club Championship Course

St Enodoc Golf Club Holywell Course

St Enodoc’s Church Course is one of the standout links in England, while Trevose provides a consistent championship test. The Holywell Course adds flexibility for additional rounds.

Staying on the north side of the estuary also allows easy inclusion of Bude and North Cornwall, while staying south of the estuary opens up straightforward access towards Newquay and beyond, giving this hub real flexibility depending on itinerary direction.

Staying on site at Trevose simplifies logistics, with golf and accommodation integrated.

North Cornwall – Newquay

Base: The Headland Hotel

Newquay works well as a central base for a varied links itinerary.

Perranporth Golf Club

Newquay Golf Club

Trevose Golf and Country Club

Perranporth is widely regarded as one of the most natural links in the country, while Newquay offers a more relaxed but still exposed coastal round. Trevose can also be comfortably included from this base, adding a championship test to the rotation.

St Enodoc is also within a manageable drive time, allowing this hub to cover both sides of the Camel Estuary without the need to relocate.

The Headland Hotel provides a strong coastal base with facilities that suit both golfers and non golfers.

Southwest Cornwall – St Ives

Base: Carbis Bay Hotel and Estate

The far South West offers a more remote, rugged golfing experience while still retaining strong links credentials.

West Cornwall Golf Club

Mullion Golf Club

Perranporth Golf Club

West Cornwall anchors the area as a traditional links, while Mullion brings a more exposed, raw coastal test. Perranporth can also be included within this hub, giving added depth for longer stays in the region.

Carbis Bay provides a higher end base near St Ives, with strong appeal beyond the golf itself.

Across these seven hubs, the region delivers:

20 links golf courses

8 championship links suitable for premium itineraries

Multiple bases that remove the need for constant travel

For operators, this creates a straightforward proposition:

A flexible region where high quality links golf can be delivered through well structured hubs, rather than complex point to point touring.
